MRS Brenda Salter, of Wick Hill, Bremhill, performed wonders with Beauty, a placid Friesian, to win hands down the title of Foxham Milkmaid 1984 at Foxham Fayre on Saturday.

Robert Pegler organised the contest, which formed one of the main attractions at the event in aid of the funds of the Church of St. John the Baptist.

Guessing the weight of live piglets brought along by Ben Parrott provided fun, the winners were John Stone and Mrs R. Smith.

Children were given rides on a 1827 Wallis and Stevens roller operated by Martin Hawkins, of Christian Malford.

As the steam veteran chugged along under full steam, the scene was brought up to the minute by the RAF's Red Arrows who flew overhead in formation to provide a spectacular, though impromptu display.

There was dancing on the lawn of the Dower House, and displays of judo and by majorettes from Sutton Benger.

Mr and Mrs Gingell won a skittle contest.

A wobbly bike, stalls and sideshows, refreshments in the reading room, and a contest with a wheelbarrow and goodies worth £50 in all, helped to make up Foxham's day of days.

Special flower arrangements were on display in the church which was opened for the occasion.

The day's merrymaking brought in more than £500.
